How to Install postgis software package in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr)

postgis software package provides Geographic objects support for PostgreSQL, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,

$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install postgis

postgis is installed in your system.

Make ensure the postgis package were installed using the commands given below,

$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep postgis *

You will get with postgis package name, version, architecture and description in a table
